Most of you are out and about looking for venues whether it is for a party or a Wedding so I thought that it would be good to give you some tips on what to look out for and how to choose a right one for you.
Of course you know to ask about the charges but make sure you find out what it actually covers.
- Make sure you ask how many hours and what hours the hire will cover. This must allow you enough time before to decorate it and bring your suppliers in.
- Have a think whether you are having an exclusive use or not.
Be careful with exclusive use their might be hidden charges in those so make sure you ask about everything. Often if it is a Hotel venue they will require you to book all the Hotel rooms or a bigger percentage of them.
- Most people focus on asking venues about maximum numbers but don’t forget to ask about minimum numbers. Most of the venues will have those and if you planning to make your guests list shorter than it is something to consider.
Also check whether the venue has got preferred suppliers list as they might not be happy to work with different ones that they have never worked with before.
But this is usually a good thing as it will save you a lot of money as they will do really good deals and they know the place inside out so everything will be perfect.
If you want to purchase your own drinks because of your preferences or you are from a certain country that has specific tradition regarding to drinking than make sure to check the corkage !
This can cause a massive difference in your final budget if you don’t have it all set and it can get out of control.
If you are planning to have a live band, musicians or DJ’s make sure you check what are the venues regulations on sounds as some of them might have restrictions on how loud and how late the music can play.
Finding this out on the day might cause a lot of problems and no music for your party.
Happy planning and partying!!!
This is the first thing you need to be doing once you are engaged. SO I will try and make this really easy for you. If you have any questions don’t hesitate to ask. I will be happy to answer any questions.
No one enjoys talking about money but you need to get this right from the beginning. Average Wedding in UK costs £20k but this doesn’t mean that yours have to cost that much or that little.
If it is planned out right you can spend lot less.
- So to start with see how much you have saved up already.
- How much will you save leading up to the wedding.
- How much family contribution you will get if any.
Once you have a rough idea of how much you have got you can go to the next step.
What are your priorities?
- Maybe historic venue or amazing band
- Closest family only or everybody that you know
- Amazing food or amazing atmosphere
The list can go on and on….
So now I want you to think of ONE word that describes your wedding, maybe FUN or ELEGANT …..
Once you have got that both close your eyes and dream your perfect wedding.
Note it down.
What do you see there?
How do you want to feel?
How do you want your guests to feel?
If you need to cut costs than really think what is most important for you both.
Now when your dream is painted and you know how much money you have for it, produce a spreadsheet
Split it into columns
- Drink Reception
- Wedding Breakfast
- Evening Reception
Than you can have sub categories for flowers, stationery, entertainment, cake etc.
Now split the budget between everything that you have listed, registrars, band, food, drink, venue ….
Its easier to work it that way and you can see what you have instead of blowing all the money on the venue and than not having enough for food and drink for your guests.
Little guide for you all:
45% of your budget will go on the reception and 55% on all other aspects of your wedding.
Make sure to have two extra columns stating the expected cost and the actual cost to see how much is being spent at every step of you planning.
This will help you with tracking the over spending !
PLEASE make sure that you leave 5% of the budget for surprises because I promise you there will be some and this can’t be avoided.
The most common thing that gets out of control is the guests list. Don’t loose your head on this. You probably already have the most important guests already set in your head and as much as you would love to invite everybody you know so that you can share your day with them this will not help you.
SO if your budget is limited than make sure you check your guest list. Because if you start adding one friend there and another one there and than they have plus ones than that could get up to 10 extra people.
NOW 10 extra people means:
- Another table
- More stationery for this table
- More flowers
- More food
This can get very expensive ! and don’t over invite hoping that someone will say NO !
Final Tips of the day !
If you decide not to have the wedding planner helping you with the wedding than ask friends and family or even local community to help you with the wedding.
Maybe someone has got a talent that you never knew about and they might save your life, money and time.
There might be someone that has got a nice vintage car, or sister which is a hairdresser. This could save you a lot of money and if you are on a budget that you will appreciate it.
P.s. Make sure that you book the important stuff first so that you don’t go spending money on things that you simply might not have money for.
Happy Planning 😊
